Low
Many elements that constitute good team functioning need serious development here. This team appears to be functioning more as a group in contrast to a team.
As with all teams, core team processes (see below) affect the level of functioning and overall performance the team achieves at a given time.
Core Processes
- TR - TRUST
- TA - TEAM ACCOUNTABILITY
- MTC- MANAGING & TRANSFORMING CONFLICT
- LE- LEADERSHIP EFFECTIVENESS
- TAD - TEAM AWARENESS & DEVELOPMENT
- OC - ORGANIZATIONAL CONDUCT
- TRS- TEAM ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Descriptions of select core processes:
- Team Accountability goes to the timeliness and quality of the team’s work product.
- Managing and Transforming Conflict and dissent are learned and essential skills – both of which are necessary for teams to produce timely and high quality output.
- A solid foundation of Trust among team members allows for open, healthy, and productive interaction. Members rely on honesty and candor rather than hidden or personal agendas. Individual input is treated as a “building block” for members to construct richer and more comprehensive solutions to their assigned tasks.
- Leadership Effectiveness is considered crucial to overall team performance. If the team is a self-directed team then the aspect of shared leadership is crucial to their overall functioning and performance. Self-directed teams, just as leader-led teams, have their own set of factors which influence their core processes.
Team Development Considerations
Did an event, incident, or situation occur that prompted you to take action? Ask yourself, “What would I like to see happen in order for this group to develop, grow, and function like a great team?”
If you are the team leader, input from your manager regarding this exercise and their perception of both team performance and your leadership skills is in order here. Feedback from your manager about your own development needs is essential to the process of your team’s functioning and development. This conversation may include discussion of a 360 feedback initiative, which involves gathering input from you and the team members.
Once the core team processes that need development are identified and addressed, team members will begin to exhibit healthy behaviors and enable members to engage in teamwork activities and perform adequately.
We partner with our clients to develop the purpose and strategy of the 360 process to best align this initiative with your organization’s business and talent plans. Let us know if you need further information.
Consider…
Based on your knowledge of this team, which core team processes do you see as being strong?
And which processes are in the most need of development?
